An object is 14 cm in front of a diverging lens that has a focal length of -9.1 cm. How far in front of the lens should the object be placed so that the size of its image is reduced by a factor of 2.2
if the object has the size reduced by 2.2 so the distance p of object to the lense is 2.2 that of p’ distance of the image ,
since i/o=p’/p =2.2 and p =2.2p’
formula 1/p’ =1/p +1/f
we use 14cm =0.14m
1/2.2p =1/p + 1/f
0.2388/p-1/p =1/0.14=7.143
0.2388-1= 7.143p
