How do you determine the size of your lens hood?
I bought a used lens but doesnt come with a hood. The diameter of the lens is 82mm. Nikons hoods are marked as HB-??. I found a site which sells these hoods but I’m not sure what HB number to pic. How do you determine this?
The lens is a 28-105mm f/2.8 Tamron lens.
One alternative you may want to consider… a screw on rubber hood. I use these with my Mamiya camera. One size hood fits two lenses, and another hood fits a larger lens. As long as the filter threads are the same, you can use the same hood on different lenses. I just like these hoods so much better than fumbling with aligning dots with the usual Bayonet Mount plastic dedicated lens hood. Plus, when using a polarizer filter, it is great to screw the hood into the filter, then you can rotate the hood to adjust the filter. Also, the collapseable nature of the rubber hood gives some really nice protection to the front of the lens, it will take a hit and absord shock much better than a plastic lens hood. You can get these hoods very cheap from places like B-H.
