Nikon 50mm f/1.8 aperture ring on D40?
will the aperture ring on the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 work with my Nikon D40, or will i have to go into aperture priority mode to change the aperture?

i realize that it wont autofocus on the D40…

I own the Nikon D40, and the 50mm f/1.8 lens. No, you will not be able to change the aperture on the lens from the aperture ring, you are going to have to put the aperture on f/22, and lock it ( with the red switch you see in that picture ). The lens will not work if it is not locked on f/22. The AF lenses with aperture rings must be locked with that little red toggle. The camera can have full control of the lens, or you can throw it in Aperture priority and take control of it. Besides not being able to Autofocus, it is like any other lens.
